Week of January 14th

Happy Monday Pugh Tribe!

Its been a few weeks since my last blog post. I hope you all had a very restful weekend. We are beginning a lot of exciting new units in 3rd grade this week. Here is a look into what we will be learning over the next few weeks.

Math: We began fractions last week by taking a look at key vocabulary such as numerator and denominator. From there, we moved into what a unit fraction is and how to partition shapes to represent unit fractions. This week, we will be building off of unit fractions and looking at partitioning number lines to represent fractions. I used this learn zillion video this morning and wanted to share it with you for additional practice at home.

Reading: Last week, we began looking at how characters develop in the stories that we read and will continue that focus into this week. We started reading Because of Winn-Dixie and love connecting with the main character Opal and her dog Winn Dixie! Make sure you continue to read at home for at least 15 minutes a night and log it at the bottom of your agenda.

Social Studies: This is one of my favorite units that we get to study in 3rd grade. We are learning all about the European explorers that embarked on voyages to the New World and why they took these voyages. This week, we will be learning about John Cabot and what his goals were for his voyages.

Science: We live in Georgia so why not study the habitats of... you guessed it! Georgia! This week, we will be taking a look at the different regions of Georgia and the habitats that are located in each of the regions. We are finalizing our Science Fair Projects today and tomorrow to be ready for the Science Fair Presentation later this month. The students are doing a wonderful job of working together to make the tri-fold look AMAZING!

Report Cards went home on Friday. Please take your copy of the report card out and keep at home for your reference. I just need the envelope brought back signed for Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 report cards.

Another amazing celebration!!!!! I am so proud of this class and their reading levels! We took the RI for the 3rd time today and I am so excited and honored to say that the Pugh Tribe is all reading at grade level or above grade level. This class blows my mind every day with their dedication to reading and the goals that they set for themselves. There might be a little treat coming there way on Friday!

On that note, I want to wish you all a Marvelous Monday!

-Ms. Pugh
