Week of September 2nd

Happy Wednesday Pugh Tribe!

Sorry I am just now posting. Here is a look into what we will be learning this week...

Math: We are moving into multiplication strategies. I have had a few families ask what are some resources you can use at home. I highly recommend Teacherspayteachers.com if you are looking for some worksheets. All you have to do is create a free account and then find the free worksheets for the standards you want to practice at home. Another free website is LearnZillion and all you have to do is create a free account. I have found some great resources on both to use! We will be focusing on three main strategies for multiplication: equal groups, arrays, and repeated addition. Here are a few LearnZillion videos as visual aids to practice the strategies.

Equal Groups: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/6565-understand-multiplication-problems-using-equal-groups/

Arrays: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/6841-represent-multiplication-using-arrays/

Repeated Addition: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/4966-interpret-products-using-repeated-addition/

Reading: This week we are focusing on asking and answering questions as we read to further understand the books that we are reading.

Progress Reports:  Progress Reports will be coming home tomorrow. You will receive two copies. Please keep one at home and return the other copy signed by Friday, September 13th. These are not the final grades for the 9 weeks, they are just showing where we are with the standards at this point in the 9 weeks. For my students who are not meeting the standards, I am working with them in small groups to help guide their practice and understanding of the standards in addition to doing practice as a whole class.

Weekly Work Packets: Every Thursday, I will be sending home the weekly work packets. Please keep the papers at home and sign the yellow sheet and send back to school. If it has a grade, that was an assessment. If it have a check-mark or keep practicing, that is an assignment we completed leading up to our assessments at the end of the week.

CogAT Testing & IOWA Testing: I appreciate everyone arriving to school on time. We have two more days of CogAT testing this week. Next week, we will be taking the IOWA test which will be a little longer than the 30 minutes. Please make sure your student arrives on time and has a good breakfast before coming to school. If they eat breakfast in the cafeteria, please remind them to eat something filling so they are not hungry during the tests.

I believe that is all that I have for this week. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at katherine.pugh@cobbk12.org or on Classtag.com!

Best wishes,

Ms. Pugh
