Week of December 2nd

Happy Tuesday Pugh Tribe! I hope you all had a restful week off from school. I am so glad we are able to come back to school ready to learn. Here is a look into the next couple of weeks at school. Math: We are moving into area. We will be learning how to measure area and use multiplication to find the area of rectangles. I will have a video for next week. Since this is an introduction, I do not have a video to share for extra help this week. Reading: We are reviewing main idea and supporting details when reading informational texts. MI/RI: The students have done a great job with the Math Inventory (MI) and the Reading Inventory (RI) this week. I will be sending home a parent report letter for both assessments within the next couple of days. Holiday Party: We will be having our Holiday Party on Tuesday, December 17th from 12:00-1:00 pm. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Here is a look into what we will be doing this week. Math: We took a quiz on properties of multiplication and I will use these quizzes to create my groups for the rest of the week. I will meet with these students for additional practice before the big test. Tomorrow through the rest of the week will be multiplying by multiples of 10. Happy Wednesday Pugh Tribe! We have had a very busy week so far in the Pugh Tribe. Here is a look into what we are learning and what will be happening next week at Acworth Elementary. Happy Wednesday Pugh Tribe! Sorry I am just now posting. Here is a look into what we will be learning this week... Math: We are moving into multiplication strategies. I have had a few families ask what are some resources you can use at home. I highly recommend Teacherspayteachers.com if you are looking for some worksheets. All you have to do is create a free account and then find the free worksheets for the standards you want to practice at home. Another free website is LearnZillion and all you have to do is create a free account. I have found some great resources on both to use! We will be focusing on three main strategies for multiplication: equal groups, arrays, and repeated addition. Here are a few LearnZillion videos as visual aids to practice the strategies. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! We have had a very productive day today and I am excited to continue that energy through the rest of the week. Here is a look into what we will be learning about and doing in the Pugh Tribe this week. Math: Today I introduced 2-step word problems. This was just an introduction into how to solve them. We will be taking a word problems assessment on Thursday to evaluate whether the class knows how to solve word problems that have two steps. Friday we will take our unit assessment on addition/subtraction and word problems to evaluate where the students are with these standards. Reading: We are continuing to learn and use new strategies to check our understanding of the books that we are reading in class. Today we practiced finding the meaning for tricky words in our chapter books. I am very impressed with this group of young scholars and how they move over tricky words! S.O.A.R. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! We have been learning so much today and I look forward to all that we will achieve this week. Here is a look into what we will be doing in the Pugh Tribe this week. Agendas: We will be receiving actual agendas in the beginning of September. For the time being, there is a paper calendar to be filled out everyday. Please make sure you see the color they are on that coordinates with the behavior chart, initial next to the color, and record how many minutes your student read on the total line. Math: This week, we are learning about addition within 1,000 using strategies such as Partial Sums and Number Line. Week of August 5th

Happy Tuesday Pugh Tribe! We are off to a great start for the school year! I am excited to see what we accomplish this school by following the Warrior Way. Here is a look into what is going on in the Pugh Tribe. Agendas: Unfortunately we are still waiting on agendas to be shipped. For now, I will give students their weekly folders and we will have an agenda sheet on the back. Please look at their behavior color and sign next to the color until agendas are delivered. Testing: This week we have taken the RI: Reading Inventory and on Thursday, we will be taking the MI: Math Inventory. Please make sure you remind your student to take their time and read through every problem. Homework: This week begins our Math and Reading homework. I am going over the homework with the class this week so they know what I am expecting every night. Starting next week, students will be doing all of their homework at home. Please make sure they write in pencil and bring it to school every morning.

Open House

Welcome Back Acworth Families!       I am looking forward to what this year has in store for the Pugh Tribe. I want to introduce myself to all of the new third grade families, my name is Katherine Pugh. It is my third year teaching here and I am so excited to be a part of the warrior family. This blog will be updated every Monday that we are in school and I encourage you to take a few minutes to read through the information highlighted for the week. This year, I will be utilizing Class Tag to communicate with our wonderful families. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! We had a blast at our End of Year Party today! Thank you for your continual support and encouragement this school year. This is a wonderful group of students and I am excited to see what the future holds for these young minds. Here is a look into what the last few days of the school year look like. Tuesday, May 14th: We will be continuing with 2-step word problems and continuing to practice their math fact fluency. In reading, we will be reviewing how to identify the main idea of a text when read aloud. The class will be taking the Reading Inventory (RI) this afternoon. Please make sure you are present all day throughout the week. Wednesday, May 15th: We will be practicing parts of speech and writing in complete sentences. We will be editing our narrative from last week and looking ahead to writing a final draft/typing. Happy Tuesday Pugh Tribe, Sorry I was not able to post this yesterday. I hope you all had a great weekend. Here is a look into what is happening this week. Math: We are continuing our focus on MD.2 working with capacity. I have also been doing a review of addition and subtraction within 1000, we need to continue practicing solving these problems and then using the inverse operation to check our work. Reading: This week, we are looking at distinguishing our point of view from that of the author of a text. Milestones: We will be taking Section 1 of the Math portion tomorrow. Thursday will be our last day of Milestones testing for 3rd grade. Please make sure your student gets plenty of rest tonight and tomorrow night. Eat a healthy breakfast and come to school on time. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! I hope you all had a restful weekend. Here is a look into what is happening in the Pugh Tribe this week. Math: We will be focusing on elapsed time and capacity this week. The students knocked it out of the park the first day with elapsed time so we should have a fun week with these standards! Reading: We will be reviewing the various standards taught this year to help prepare for the different sections of the milestones. We have also been using IXL for the different ELA and Math skills for additional practice. Spelling: We are on Week 8 of our spelling words list, here are the words. Welcome Back Pugh Tribe! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. Here is a look into what is going on for the Pugh Tribe this week. Math:  We continued review on partitioning shapes and took it a step further today with comparing equal areas of shapes. We will review this standard as well as the standard on categorizing shapes based on sides and angles. The class will take a post assessment to show their understanding of the standards later this week. Reading:  Today, we reviewed text features and will move into the different useful features found in informational texts. Homework: We have a new monthly calendar for the month of April. If  the students complete the weeks worth of the calendar, they will earn Class Dojo points. Reading homework is not optional, that will be reviewed each day based on key standards that will be assessed on the Georgia Milestones next week. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! I hope you all had a great weekend in the beautiful weather. We are almost to Spring Break...4 more days! I want to encourage everyone in the Pugh Tribe to be present and on time each and every day this week. Here are some notes and updates as we look into the schedule for this week. Math: The students have done a phenomenal job with our introduction to Polygons. We will continue this unit through the rest of the week. We have discussed angles and sides and how that helps to identify what kind of polygon it is. Reading: We finished distinguishing point of view last week and that leads us into comparing and contrasting two texts. Happy Marvelous Monday! As we move into test prep, we have a few changes to our schedule. Mondays we will be getting a laptop cart to work on our typing skills, not only for test prep but as an addition to writing for standards. Along with more time on the computers, we will also be working on a few more reading problems for homework each night. As a 3rd grade team, we have assigned a reading passage each week with a few questions for Monday through Thursday. I will be going over this daily with the class to clarify any misconceptions. This will be our main homework, for additional Class Dojo points, I will be looking at homework calendars every Friday. So here is a look at the week: Math: Based on data from our unit assessments, I wanted to spend more of last week working on multiplication and division facts. So this week, we will be focusing on 2 step word problems and explaining the steps we took to solve the problem. Perimeter is a standard we will focus on in the 4th quarter

Happy Monday! We have a great week ahead of us! Here is a look into what we will be doing this week. Math: Today, the students took a pre-assessment for perimeter and word problems. We will begin perimeter tomorrow and continue through Friday. The following week, we will be doing word problems to finish out the quarter. Reading: This week, we are looking at standard RI.2 which is identifying the main idea in an informational text. We had a great first lesson and will be building on that information throughout the rest of the week. In grammar, we are looking at using commas in addresses and using context clues to find the meaning of unknown words or words with multiple meanings. Picture Day: Tomorrow at 9:10 am we will be taking our class picture. Make sure to send in the form or I believe there is a way to pay online! Math: We were introduced to line plots yesterday and will continue line plots through most of the week. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! We are almost to Winter Break! That being said, we have a lot to accomplish in these 5 days. We won perfect attendance last week with only one absence! Let's aim to be present everyday this week. Here is a look into what we will be learning about this week... Math: We began telling time to the nearest 5 minutes on Friday. Based on my data and observations, this class is rocking and rolling with telling time. We will continue this trend into telling time to the nearest minute on analog clocks. On Thursday, we will begin measurement on rulers to the nearest inch. Reading:  We are continuing comparing and contrasting two texts this week as well as introducing point of view. We will be focusing on distinguishing our point of view from that of the authors. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe!  I hope you have all had a great weekend. Super Bowl Sunday was an exciting day with it being in Atlanta! Here is a look into what we will be doing in the Pugh Tribe this week. Math: We are finishing up fractions today and will be assessing our understanding of fractions tomorrow. We have a big STEM day on Wednesday so we will be introducing telling time on Thursday. Reading: This week, we will be looking at comparing and contrasting story elements. During Reading Groups, I will be working with students on different strategies to help improve our understanding of higher level texts. Field Trip: We have had a lot of permission slips turned in and I want to encourage those who have not had it filled out to bring it signed and complete by Friday. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! I hope you all had a wonderful MLK Jr. Day yesterday. Here is a brief look into what we will be learning this week as well as some exciting news about a FIELD TRIP. Math: We are moving on from fractions on a number line to equivalent fractions. We have been referring back to our fraction strips in class to compare equivalent fractions. They have been doing a great job in our first day on this standard and we will continue to build on this standard throughout the rest of the week. Reading: We are moving on from focusing on the main character in our stories to a secondary character in the story and how they help to build onto the story. Field Trip: Exciting news... we have finally announced our field trip for this year. We will be going to the Etowah Indian Mounds on March 1st. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! Its been a few weeks since my last blog post. I hope you all had a very restful weekend. We are beginning a lot of exciting new units in 3rd grade this week. Here is a look into what we will be learning over the next few weeks. Math: We began fractions last week by taking a look at key vocabulary such as numerator and denominator. From there, we moved into what a unit fraction is and how to partition shapes to represent unit fractions. This week, we will be building off of unit fractions and looking at partitioning number lines to represent fractions.
