Week of December 11th

Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! Hope you all enjoyed the Snow Day yesterday. We have jumped in where we left off on Friday. The students have been drafting their informational writing pieces on a specific explorer. Some of the students who wanted to make sure they had plenty of time to get thoughts to paper have brought them home to continue writing. They will bring it back tomorrow to meet with a partner for editing. Since this is a short week and we are administering the Science Benchmark and a few Math and Reading Touchstones. We will not have Math homework this week. I still want the students to read each day and record their reading in their agenda. You will see in their agenda their growth from the first RI and MI to the one we took this past week. I am very impressed overall with the growth our class has shown. As a reminder, please be checking your students agenda for notes from me or important documents to be signed. If you have not signed your students homework packet, ple

Happy Monday! Hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. As we go into this week, I wanted to remind you all that we will not have school tomorrow. With all of the things happening at the end of the day today, I forgot to pass out the math homework. Do not worry, they will get a printed copy on Wednesday but I have also attached it to the blog post.  Please make sure to be reading with them at home and logging it in their agenda each and every day. We will begin a new standard in math with patterns for addition and multiplication. Patterns for addition: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/5460-identify-patterns-on-an-addition-chart Patterns for multiplication: https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/8456-identify-patterns-on-a-multiplication-chart An application went home with the students who were interested in applying for the Science Olympiad team. Good Afternoon! As we begin this exciting week I just wanted to say that I have enjoyed seeing all of the students participation in Red Ribbon Week. Tomorrow is our final day of Red Ribbon Week. The whole school will be dressing as their favorite book characters. I have my costume ready to go as I hope your children are getting excited too. You will be receiving a phone call tonight with more information about our parade and literacy activity to follow. As a reminder, no students are allowed to dress up with a scary face such as fake blood. No accessories or masks are allowed since they can be a distraction to classroom instruction. This week in math, we have been reviewing multiples of 10s as well as introducing 2 step word problems for this unit. I have attached the anchor chart with an example that I will be completing with the students starting on Wednesday. On Friday, we will be doing some activities outside for our Science unit on Fossils. Please send your s

Good Evening Pugh Tribe! We have a lot going on this week.  Red Ribbon Week begins Wednesday with the poster competition. During our conference week meetings, the information for Red Ribbon Week was given out in the folders I gave you with resources.  I have also attached an image of the flyer to the post.  There will be a prize for the best poster per grade level! As a school, we are collecting change for United Way this week.  If you are able to, please donate loose change to United Way.  The grade level that raises the most will receive a movie day and popcorn party! Students have recorded their homework into their agenda. As we go into this week for homework, the math practice sheet is a good way for students to practice the math strategies for multiplication as well as other standards we have learned about this year. Starting this week, students will not have a printed copy of a reading log. Each night before you sign your students agenda, please record how long they read an
Hello Pugh Tribe! I have enjoyed getting to meet with each of you thus far this week. In order to ensure that you know where we are with math strategies, I have attached a list of resources to use as examples.  This week, we have been completing two step word problems using multiplication and division. During our mini lessons, I have used these videos to model how to complete the word problems. I hope this will help you at home if you are wanting to practice more beyond the homework. Best wishes, Ms. Pugh (Start at 1:30 on the video) https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/4981-solve-equal-groups-problems-using-arrays (Start at 1:12 on the video) https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/6412-solve-word-problems-using-the-idea-of-equal-groups

Last Week of Testing!

Good Evening Pugh Tribe! The end of testing is near. The students have been working very hard on each and every test. Tomorrow is our last IOWA testing day. Since our homework is grade wide, we will not be having math homework this week. However, students are required to read 30 minutes everyday and log it on their Reading Log.   For extra math and reading practice, I recommend having your student use Xtra Math and Read Theory. Please make sure you read and sign your students agenda each and everyday. Thank you again for all that you do with your students at home. Have a great week! Ms. Pugh

Good Morning!    Hope you all enjoyed an extended weekend. I am glad to have everyone back in the classroom today. Due to COGAT testing, we will not have math homework. However, I am still encouraging students to read between 20-30 minutes each night and log it on their Reading Log. If students would like to practice multiplication, they are able to use XTRA Math for the additional practice.     I have enjoyed seeing what your students have read at home and building that personal reading stamina is great! I have attached the September newsletter which will also be in your students take home folder this afternoon. Have a great rest of the week. -Ms. Pugh
