Week of December 3rd!

Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. For all of my Alabama fans out there ROLL TIDE. We have a very busy week so you do not want to be absent this week. HOLIDAY SHOP TOMORROW 9:00-9:45 am make sure your student brings their money to school if they want to purchase something. Here is a sneak peak into what is going on in class... Math: We are diving into addition patterns using addition tables over the next few days to highlight the standard OA.9. To better evaluate how the students are doing with each standard, I will assess them on Thursday and create our Math Groups for next week based on additional practice needed or extension for those that already know the standards. Good Evening Pugh Tribe! I hope you all had a wonderful Turkey Day! I am so glad to be back with the Pugh Tribe today. Here is a look into what we will be learning this week... Math : The Pugh Tribe did a great job with area before the break. We will be moving into 1-step and 2-step word problems for the next few weeks. These word problems will consist of using all four operations (multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction) Reading: We will be reviewing text features and search tools to help build strategies for understanding the facts and information in an informational text. Don't forget to read 15 minutes each night and log it in the agendas! Homework: It is a Monday and I do apologize for not attaching the reading passage for tonight's homework. Good Morning Pugh Tribe! Happy Warm-Hearted Wednesday ! We have had a very busy week so I apologize for just now posting. Here is a look at the rest of the week. Math: We have been continuing our unit on area. We will be practicing through tomorrow and assessing on Friday to show our understanding of area and how we use dimensions to solve for area. Reading: Today and through the rest of the week, we will be looking at comparing and contrasting topics in a nonfiction text to show our understanding of the text. Spelling: We have new spelling words that are in your student's agenda. I want to encourage them to practice these common high frequency words and be ready to test on Friday. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe! It was a great weekend for the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide! We have a lot of exciting things happening this week in the Pugh Tribe. Here is a layout for the week: Math: We will be introducing a new topic this week... AREA . I am very excited to start our unit on area and connect that to the multiplication we have been learning in class. Reading:  This week in Reading we will be reviewing asking and answering questions to show our comprehension of the text. This time, we will be applying this standard to nonfiction texts. It will be a great week for reading! Spelling:  I am so proud of the hard-work our class has put into practicing their spelling words each week. This will be our last week of spelling words for the next few weeks. This is due in part to the other grammar focuses such as prefixes/suffixes and verbs that we need to cover for each day during the next few weeks. Good Morning Pugh Tribe! Sorry for the late post. I hope you all had a wonderful Monday! Here is a few announcements for the week. Math: We have been learning about the Distributive Property of Multiplication. We will be continuing this concentration through Friday. Reading: Please continue to read 15 minutes each night. I want to encourage you all to choose a nonfiction text to read so that we can become experts on different topics. Tomorrow remember to wear closed toed shoes for our outside activity. Spelling: New spelling words are in your student's agenda, we will be completing the Spelling Practice page today, our printers were not responding in the building yesterday. Happy Monday Pugh Tribe!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for coming last week to meet with me and review your child's performance in Quarter 1. I have enjoyed teaching your children and learning from them each and everyday. As for this week, I am excited for all of the festivities we have coming up in the Warrior Nation. Just a few things I want to share with you all: Math: We will continue practicing our multiplication strategies. Along with these strategies, we will be looking at multiplying one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10. Math: We will continue to review the arrays strategy for solving multiplication problems. I showed the students a learn zillion video to review this strategy. Hello Pugh Tribe! Happy Fall! I hope everyone had a restful Fall Break. I am excited to have everyone back in the classroom today. Here is what we are focusing on this week in Math and Reading. Math: We are focusing on fact families to build on our Multiplication and Division curriculum. We are using arrays to show the correlation between 3 numbers that make up a fact family. Reading: Today we began our focus on Character Traits and will be continuing this focus for the week in relation to applying the terms we have learned to help us better understand the characters in our books. Homework Folder: Our 3rd grade team is finalizing the October Homework Calendar this afternoon. That being said, homework folders will be sent home tomorrow. Spelling Words: We are starting spelling tests this week to help support spelling in the classroom. Hello Pugh Tribe! Hope everyone had a restful weekend. We are excited to get started with our learning this week. Math: This week, we will be applying our understanding of the Addition and Subtraction Operations to word problems. This will be the focus for the entire week and gradually applying real life situations to using these two operations. Reading: We are finishing up Parts of Stories, Dramas, and Poems. Thursday, we will be moving into comprehension using reading passages. So I want to encourage every student to be reading at least 15 minutes each night and logging their reading in their agenda. Hello Pugh Tribe! Hope everyone enjoyed their long Labor Day weekend! I am so happy to have the Pugh Tribe back today. Just a few things I want to update you all on a few things happening this week. Please read all the way through!!! Math: We are finishing up addition strategies and moving into subtraction strategies. I have not been able to find a video on the two strategies (Counting On and Counting Back). However, students homework does not reflect these two strategies this week but I will send home examples for future problems. We will be spending two days on one strategy and then move on to the other strategy. Reading: This week and going into next week, we will be looking at different parts of stories, dramas, and poems. Hello Pugh Tribe! I hope you are all having a wonderful start to the week. Here is what we will be doing this week in the Pugh Tribe. Math: We have jumped into using the Chunking Strategy for solving addition problems. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! We are off to a great start this Marvelous Monday! Just a few things that I want to let you know. Math: We are finishing the properties of addition and are moving into understanding place value and rounding. Hello Pugh Tribe! I hope you are all having a wonderful start to the week. I wanted to inform you of our new Homework Folder. Each day students will be bringing home a red folder that has a monthly homework calendar inside. Each day, your student will be responsible for completing the homework in the box that matches the date. There is notebook paper in the folder for students to solve the problems on. In addition to the daily problem(s), your student will be responsible for reading 15-20 minutes a night and log their reading on the bottom of their agenda. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me. After repeated disruptions and discussions on Pokemon cards. We will be keeping our Pokemon cards at home. These do not need to be brought to school. These are items that can be enjoyed at home but do not need to interrupt instruction at school. Hello Pugh Tribe! I am excited to get the blog up and running again. We are off to a great start in the Pugh Tribe this Monday! We have been doing some Writing and Reading today and I am excited to get the ball rolling on Math tomorrow. We will begin diving into our curriculum on Wednesday. After talking with the 3rd grade teachers, we have decided to create an interactive reading notebook this year. That being said, we will need an additional COMPOSITION book. If you could send this additional composition book with your student no later than Friday, I would greatly appreciate it. Starting next week, I will be sharing videos with examples of the strategies we will be learning in Math as well as a homework sheet that will have a few problems for every day of the week. These homework sheets will be due Friday. However, we will go over the problems assigned for the night before to clarify any misconceptions. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! Hope everyone has enjoyed their Marvelous Monday. Our goal for the rest of the year is to make each day count! This week in Math, we are studying polygons and the different attributes that make up shapes such as quadrilaterals, hexagons, and octagons. The students are also working on their multiplication memory facts. Their math homework for the week is a multiplication worksheet that will be due for a grade on Friday. Our spelling words for the week are: through, threw, new, knew, see, sea, write, right, government, and citizen. Our spelling test will be this Friday following morning announcements. We got to listen to the Cobb County Public Library this afternoon to find out ways we can be extending our reading through the summer. I hope everyone soaked in the information. We are jumping right into a review of equivalent fractions during math as well as a review of Subtraction and Addition within 1,000. Hello Pugh Tribe!!! Hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend. We are off to a great start this Monday morning with one of our last sections of the Milestones. I would like to remind all students to get plenty of rest tonight and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning to prepare for the final day of Milestones testing tomorrow! There were several sleepy students this morning. We will not have homework again this week due to Milestones testing. However, every student should have brought home their Math Coach Book to get additional practice in over the weekend and through tonight. I would encourage you to not only have your student solve the problems but also explain their answers and how they solved the problems. We will be diving into our multiplication facts challenge starting tomorrow. This is one of the major standards that your student will be working hard to achieve this quarter. Happy Monday! I hope you all had a relaxing Spring Break. We are all a little slow moving this morning. I wanted to send a reminder that field trip forms are due THIS Friday, April 13 th . I have asked if anyone needs another copy of the permission slip and a few hands were raised so I will be sending home another copy today. Good Morning Pugh Tribe! We are off to a great start in our week. Students will be bringing home both Math homework and Reading homework for the week. Parents, please make sure to remind your student to put it in their backpack every night so that they do not forget it at home. For Math and Reading this week, we are diving into our test prep activities. We will be continuing to practice our current standards as well as the standards previously taught in Quarter 1, 2, and 3. Report cards will be going home this Wednesday. Parents, please make sure you take your copy out of the envelope and keep the copy at home. The only thing that needs to be returned to school is the signed envelope. Your student will also be bringing home a Gimme 5 flyer and envelope in their take home folder. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! This week we will be discussing how we can compare and contrast text to text to support our understanding of the themes in stories. This will be our focus all week. There will be reading homework in your students take home folder as well as logging their reading in their agendas. For math, we will be reviewing time and focusing on using multiplication and division to solve for the unknown numbers. During our math time, I will also be reviewing area and perimeter based on the performance and feedback I got from the students through last weeks homework. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! I am so happy to have all of your smiling faces back in the classroom today! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful Winter Break. We are getting back into the groove of things here in the classroom. For math homework this week it will be a few problems each day and we will go over it the following morning. Parents, please remind your student to write their name on their homework. It is hard to find the owner of each piece of homework when their name is not on it. This week we are reviewing picture graphs and line plots. This will lead us into finding the similarities and differences between a line plot and a ruler. Progress Reports

Good Morning Pugh Tribe! Progress Reports are going home today with your student. They need to be returned to school with your student on Monday. I have provided an incentive of 5 class dojo points for each student that returns it on Monday! I am also sending home the 2nd quarter homework packets. These are yours to keep at home. Week of February 5th

Hello Pugh Tribe! I hope you all are having a great start to a new week! We will begin our Math and Reading lessons in our coaches books. These books have similar questions to the Milestones that we will be taking this year. The students have shown a lot of growth and I am excited to see how they challenge themselves with the problems we complete in class. Our math homework this week is a two page progress check on comprehension for equal parts and math vocabulary. As usual, the students will be expected to read at least 30 minutes each day and log it on their agenda. We also have new spelling words for this week and they are key vocabulary and commonly misspelled words that have been noted in our classes writing assignments. Good Evening Pugh Tribe! This week we will be focusing on fractions represented on a number line. I have attached a learnzillion video that will provide a few more examples that relate to the standard that is being taught. Good Afternoon Pugh Tribe! I hope you all enjoyed your extended snow days. I know I am glad to be back in the school routines. This week we are learning more about unit fractions and equal parts. Happy New Year Pugh Tribe! I hope everyone enjoyed the break and are ready for a great start to 2018. The students will be bringing home a math homework page build on the work that we did in class today on perimeter. The students will estimate the measurements first and find the estimated perimeter of each shape. The next step will be to line up the paper ruler and find the actual perimeter of the shapes. This front and back page will be due tomorrow to discuss as a class. Students will be given their report cards tomorrow to be brought home and signed. I ONLY need the report card envelope back. The report card is yours to keep at home. If your student returns the signed envelope by Tuesday, they will be given 5 Class Dojo points.
